Privacy Policy
Last updated November 2, 2026
Beyond Their Years is a math and language practice game for kids ages 6 to 13. A parent signs up and pays. Kids just play. This page explains, in plain English, what we collect and what we do with it.
The short version
- A parent makes the account. Kids don't sign up and don't need an email.
- We collect as little about your kid as we can: a nickname you choose and their game progress.
- No ads in the game. We never sell or rent your information, and we don't share it for advertising.
- You can see, change or delete your family's information any time.
What we collect from parents
- Your email and password. Used for your login and to send you account emails, like your welcome note and progress updates. We store your password scrambled (hashed), never as plain text.
- Your PayPal subscription ID and status. Payment happens at PayPal. We never see or store your card or bank details. PayPal's own privacy policy covers what you give them.
- Messages you send us, if you email us.
What we collect about kids
- A nickname. It doesn't have to be a real name. Please don't use your kid's full name.
- Game progress. Which questions they tried, their answers, stars and coins, and how long things took. We use this to pick the next question, and to show you how your kid is doing.
- Basic device info, such as a random device ID, so progress keeps working on the same tablet or computer.
- Socrates chats. If your plan includes Socrates, our AI tutor, the messages your kid types to him are processed to write his replies. Tell your kid not to type personal details like their full name, school or address.
We do not ask kids for their email, phone number, address, photo, location or school. Kids can't post anything that other users see, and there's no chat between kids.
Parent consent (COPPA)
The U.S. Children's Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) protects kids under 13. That's why only a parent or guardian can create an account, and they agree to this policy and give consent for their kids to play when they make their login. If we learn we've collected a child's information without a parent's consent, we will delete it.
How we use information
- To run the game and keep your kid's progress.
- To manage your subscription and log you in.
- To send you account and progress emails. You can ask us to stop non-essential emails.
- To fix bugs and keep the site safe.
We don't use your kid's information for ads, and we don't build marketing profiles of kids.
Who helps us
We use a few service providers to run the site, and they may handle information only to do that job for us:
- Cloudflare hosts the site and stores account and game data. It also gives us simple, cookie-free visit counts for this website.
- PayPal handles payments.
- An email service to send account emails, and an AI service to power Socrates replies.
We may also share information if the law requires it, or to protect someone's safety.
Cookies and storage
We use a login cookie so you stay signed in, and your browser's storage to remember things like game settings and secret coins found on this website. We don't use advertising or tracking cookies.
How long we keep it
We keep your family's information while your account is open. When you delete your account, we delete your login and your kids' progress. Payment records may be kept by PayPal as the law requires.
Your choices
- See or change your info in Parent settings.
- Delete your account in Parent settings, or email us and we'll do it for you.
- Ask us what we hold about your kid, or ask us to delete it, any time. We'll answer within 30 days.
Keeping it safe
Everything travels over a secure (HTTPS) connection, and passwords are hashed. No system is perfect, but we work to protect your information and will tell you if something goes wrong that affects you.
Changes
If we change this policy in a way that matters, we'll update the date at the top and email account holders before the change applies to your kid's information.
